Despite the recent upsurge in the number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria, the Lagos state police department has reportedly confirmed the arrest of about 71 persons that were flouting government orders. These people were reportedly arrested during the recent raid on night clubs by men of the Lagos police command. It is quite disappointing to know that some persons were literally trying to “have fun” in different night clubs across Lagos state despite the city being the epicentre of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

According to press reports, these 71 persons were arrested around the Surulere and Lekki parts of Lagos on January 3rd at about 3 am in the morning. CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Lagos police command revealed that the offenders were specifically arrested at Folix Club in Lekki and also Bench Bar located at Adeniran Ogunsanya street in Surulere. He further disclosed that the police also impounded 11 luxury cars for flouting the 12 am to 4 am curfew while 2 other vehicles were seized for driving against “One-Way” traffic on that same day.
Believe it or not, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi also revealed that the Commissioner of Police in Lagos state has already ordered the “immediate” court trial of these arrested persons. Similarly, he is said to have also given the directive for the police officers to impose proper sanctions against the owners of the seized vehicles. In the same vein, the commissioner of police has reportedly ordered the Lagos police command to intensify its efforts in enforcing total compliance of residents with the COVID-19 prevention guidelines.

It is indeed remarkable that despite the “stubbornness” of many Lagosians, the police have not slacked in its efforts to stop the spread of the COVID-19 infection. As of 2 weeks ago, men of the Lagos police also stormed the popular Cubana Night Club to seal it up because it was flouting government orders.
Below is a short video that captured the moment Cubana night club was raided by the police recently.
