In case you missed it, the Judicial panel investigating the alleged Lekki Tollgate massacre that occurred during the last year #EndSARS protest will be submitting their final report any moment from now. Yes, fresh reports also claim that the Lagos State government is set to reopen the Lekki and Ikoyi tollgates after getting permission to do so at this time.
The Lagos State Govt has reportedly gotten permission to repair and reopen the Lekki tollgate any moment from now
Recall that sometimes in October 2020, the Lekki tollgate and others were allegedly set ablaze by some of the #EndSARS protesters after the controversial October 20 “massacre” night. The Lekki toll plaza and another toll plaza on the Ikoyi link bridge were particularly set on fire by the angry protesters at that time. Since that time, these tollgates have been shut down as the government continued to investigate the October 20 massacre incident.
Fast forward to this week, several media sources have confirmed that the LCC has now gotten permission to re-open both affected tollgates. Similarly, the media reports also claim that the Lagos State government has already repaired both of the tollgates to proper working conditions. However, Punch Newspaper report says that a government official said they were waiting for the #EndSARS massacre investigation panel to submit a final report before the tollgates would be finally re-opened. All of these proposed events are expected to occur in this month of October 2021. With this new update, motorists in Lagos State might need to start preparing to begin payment of toll fees for using the Lekki tollgate and Ikoyi toll gate.
