Incessant traffic gridlock in Lagos is usually one of the top excuses that many people give for not wanting to invest in the state. This issue has always been passed on from one government to another with no real solution being implemented. Hopefully, the recent moves by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu could set Lagos on the path of finally solving this gridlock issue. Yes, fresh reports have it that the Lagos government recently acquired new trains for the metro rail project being executed in the state.
Press reports claim that Governor Sanwo-Olu recently bought two new trains for the Lagos metro rail project
According to TheGuardian news outlet, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has just acquired two new sets of 10-cars Talgo (330km/h) trains. This acquisition was reportedly completed on Wednesday 19th of January 2022. Media sources claim that the trains were acquired for the Lagos Red-Line railway project which includes a 37km rail track. It is believed that the Red Line rail project will eventually have about 11 train stations when completed. Also, it is expected to actually be the very first “operational” metro rail system in the whole of West Africa.

Lagos government has purchased new trains for the anticipated Lagos Red-Line rail project
As you can see from the above pictures, Governor Sanwo-Olu and some top government officials in Lagos State went to the USA to finalize the purchase of the new trains. The governor reportedly promised Lagos residents that the first phase of the Red-Line rail project will begin late this year or early next year. He mentioned that the proposed capacity is 500,000 train passengers per day. This is indeed a good development for the public transport sector in Nigeria.
