Lagos car snatching gangs smashed by the Nigerian police

Notorious car snatchers terrorizing Lagosians have been arrested. Kudos to the Nigerian police force. Read up the news now!

Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force assigned to the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) have apprehended seven members suspected to be robbers from separate gangs, who have been victimizing Lagos State.

As reported here on Naijauto, one of the gangs’ specialty is snatching cars throughout South Western region of the country. The other syndicate engages in house-to-house theft within the bounds of Orile-Agege area, Lagos State.

In his explanation on how three of the car snatching member gangs were arrested, DSP Elkana Bala, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police, said that on April 15, around 4.30 pm, they picked up an intelligence report concerning a popular car snatcher who operates within the states in South West.

Immediately Supol Olatemiju Adebimpe led a team of police officers to Idimu, where they tracked and arrested 48-year-old Victor Umeh. One Toyota Camry car with plate number EKY784 DU was recovered from him. He confessed to have snatched the car from Imo State. According to him, he sold the vehicle and other cars snatched to a criminal receiver, Chidi Oledugbe at Orlu.
 
Detectives proceeded to Imo on May 2, with Victor Umeh and arrested the criminal receiver, Chidi Oledugbe, aged 30 and recovered one Toyota Avalon car with registration number RRT 890 FF, one Toyota Camry tiny light with registration number AGL 264 DQ and one unregistered Toyota Sienna bus.
 
Another suspect, Lateef Ibrhaim, who usually assisted in registering the robbed cars with fake custom papers and documents at Oyingbo licensing office, Lagos, was also arrested. The suspects have made useful statement and are currently assisting the police in tracking other fleeing members for possible arrest and recovery of more of the snatched cars and their operational arms and ammunition. The four recovered cars are currently packed at the IRT southwest Lagos annex office.

On the case of the house-to-house gang, DSP Bala stated that four suspected members were arrested. He went ahead to explain that the gang members carried out an invasion in a building located at Orile-Agege, in May 2.While on robbery there, they had ruthlessly beaten one of the residents who bear the name, and Joe Nwanegbo. Other residents had their cash, laptops, phones and other valuables dispossess off them.

 The police operatives, with the leading of Supplies Balogun and other police teams from Elere police division, moved into action and got the suspects arrested.

The suspects are Bolaji Jaiyeola, 25, Sodiq Lawal, 25, Idris Ibrahim, 25 and Ajewole Ajibola, 24.
