The event that has thrown the family of the late guard into period of mourning was traced back to a mere gesture from the 77-year deceased to settle a dispute around the Bode Thomas area of Surulere in Lagos State.
The deceased was a security guard at the popular Eko Club, who reportedly took a short break from his duty to get what to eat, before the sad occurrence that cost him his life around 9pm. From what we learnt, he noticed the cab driver in question was assaulting 2 female passengers, who were going to the Eko Club from Orile. The late James decided to intervene, but was later met with a heavy punch from the cab driver out of sheer anger. The punch fell on the guard’s face and he reportedly hit his head on the ground upon falling down.
According to the statement given by Tolani, who happens to be the grandchild to the deceased, revealed that the man lost his life as a result of the attack. It was also added that cab driver fled the scene.

The grandchild’s statement was corroborated by Biodun, her mother, who revealed that her father was unconscious and was denied admission by hospitals after the incident.
According to her, the 2 women were complaining about the way the driver was driving, which prompted them to ask the driver to stop the cab. She said the driver started assaulting the passengers since they decided to pay N100 instead of N150. It was the heated argument that drew the attention of the security guard to the scene, which led to her father’s untimely death. She, however, demanded justice for her father, who lost his life on Monday morning.
