From a new report getting to us, a certain Kwara mechanic recently bagged 12-month jail time for cybercrime and also forfeited his Toyota Camry. The judgement was given in a Kwara State High Court during a sitting in Ilorin. The auto mechanic was sentenced to 12 months in prison for internet-related offences. Press reports identified the convicted mechanic as 27-year-old Adebayo Muhammed Bolaji, a resident of Ilorin West LGA. It was also reported that the EFCC Zonal command in Kwara State arraigned the young man on Wednesday 12th of October with a 2-count charge before the high court.

Wilson Uwujaren, the Head of Media and Publicity for Kwara EFCC gave out the information about the mechanic sentenced to 12 months in jail. From what was gathered, the mechanic was arrested alongside some other cyber criminals on the 15th of September 2022 by the EFCC operative along Airport Road in Ilorin, the state capital. The charges read against him in the court revealed that a sum of ₦3.2 million which was fraudulently acquired was found in his account. The offence, according to the court, contravenes section 319A of the Penal Code and is punishable under the law. The defendant however pleaded guilty to the charges levelled against him. Due to his confessional statement and guilty pleas, the high court sentenced Muhammed Bolaji (the mechanic) to 6 months in prison for the two offences to be run concurrently. The trial judge also ordered that his Toyota Camry car, one iPhone 13 and a sum of $520 be forfeited to the Federal Government. Reports confirmed that the judgement was given on Thursday, 13th of October 2022.
