According to press reports, some of the children of the terrorists are allegedly being held in a detention facility in Yola by the Federal govt. The release of these children seems to be the demand of the terrorists. Similarly, they are also offering to release the abducted train passengers in exchange for the release of their own top commander as well. This information was revealed by a popular Nigerian news outlet, The Nations. The media house reported that the terrorists contacted Sheikh Ahmad Gumi’s spokesperson via the telephone. During the conversations, they threatened to consistently attack the Abuja-Kaduna rail line and Kaduna-Abuja highway if soldiers attack their hideout.

As of today, the Abuja-Kaduna train service is said to have been suspended till further notice. It is however not clear whether the federal government will yield to the requests of the terrorists in releasing the abducted train passengers. Press reports have however confirmed that the terrorists assured that the kidnapped passengers are kept in a safe place for now.
