Travelers aboard a vehicle from Abuja to Port Harcourt came face-to-face with death as they ran into alleged kidnappers in Gegu – a community in Koton-Karfi Council Area, Kogi State. All occupants on an Abuja-bound vehicle moving near Gegu, Koton-Karfi Council Area of Kogi State had died.
Other travelers who drove into the attack scene in a Toyota Camry vehicle, managed to escape amidst gunshots fired at them.
Recounting the nightmare, one of the passengers who narrowly escaped death confirmed that the incident happened around 5:58pm. He saw a group of men adorning military uniform, with their faces covered with masks, ordering people into the bush.
“At this point, we sensed that they were kidnappers. Our driver then engaged the reverse gear and they started firing our car. The driver was hit on the shoulder, while the man at the back seat was hit on the head,”
Speaking further, he said that an oncoming car attempted to escape after sighting them but was shot at several times. The car’s tires got deflated by the shots, causing it to somersault. According to him, none of the passengers survived.

The lucky escapees said that they went down to the Police Station in Gegu to report the incident, Officers at the station went down to the crime scene, and made arrangements for the victims to be taken to Kotin-Karfe General Hospital and then the Federal Medical Centre in the state capital Lokoja.
Due to the severe nature of their injuries, the driver was given referral to the National Hospital in Abuja, and the back-seat passengers got referrals to the University College Hospital in Ibadan,
Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Hakeem Busari, said that he was aware of the attack. He also confirmed the killing of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) who was from Edo State, stating that the case was under investigation.
