Some angry residents of Charanchi LGA in Katsina State took the law into their hands last Saturday by beating a suspected car robber to death. According to reports, the suspected car thief alongside other members of his gang snatched a Honda car from a 52-year-old Alhaji Usman Abdulmumini. The value of the stolen vehicle is estimated to be around ₦2.6 million.

It was gathered that the miscreants stole the vehicle from their last victim at the time when he was supervising some works on his farm located close to Kankia LGA of the state. The police acted swiftly after a report of a stolen vehicle was filed at one of their stations. SP Gambo Isah, who is the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed this incident. In his statement, he revealed that the robbers ran into the police team with the stolen vehicle and attempted to reverse and speed off. Unfortunately for them, luck ran out as an angry mob caught up with them and descended heavily on them. This however led to the death of one of the robbers. The PPRO explained that the distress call came in around 12 noon of a possible 5-man robbery syndicate that stole a vehicle belonging to one Alhaji in the area.

The Kastina Police PRO also added that the DPO in Charanchi led a team of operatives to block the Katsina-Kano highway. Their plan paid off and they were able to intercept the stolen Honda car, driven by one of the robbers. The driver, according to his statement, tried to escape arrest but ran into an angry mob that beat him to death. The police operatives also found a Makarov pistol with five loads of 0.8mm inside the vehicle. Isah said the police are currently on the hunt for the other members of the robbery gang that escaped in another vehicle.
