Just when you think you have seen it all, Japan will always shock you with just another new thing you couldn't have expected. Yes, this time around it is a "Sleeping taxi" that allows passengers to relax and sleep for some hours after work. The new trend of sleeping inside vehicles is a global phenomenon born out of stress and sometimes lack of proper sleep. Since Japan is not exempted from this practice, a Japanese taxi operator - Daiwa Motor Transportation decided to partner with Chill Out, a relaxation drink brand to create the newly unveiled "Sleeping Taxi" service in Japan.
This sleeping taxi is a product of alliance between Chill Out relaxation drink and Daiwa Motor Transportation
According to reports, the Toyota JPN Taxi-based vehicle was moving around the Tokyo streets for a limited time between August 30 and September 4, 2021, offering free-of-charge relaxing experiences to people. If you are hearing about these purpose-built cars in Japan for the first time, it would interest you to know that they were actually introduced in 2017 in production form.
Passengers are offered an ideal cabin for them to sleep for a few hours after a hard-working day
The vehicle features a spacious interior, tall body, and is powered by a 1.5-liter hybrid LPG engine. With series of modifications, it was apparently an ideal vehicle for the #SleepingTaxi.
As part of the promotional service, passengers were offered Chill Out non-energy drinks at no cost
Well, after a very stressful day, this taxi will offer you everything you need to feel relaxed. It has a portable table with many relaxation drinks on it. There are plants behind the screen-covered windows, a screen mounted on the back of the front seat, ambient lighting, a comfortable pillow and a charger for your phone.
Originally unveiled in 2017, it was a perfect model for this sleeping taxi due to its large cabin space
Considering the amount of cabin space in the Toyota JPN Taxi, it offers enough legroom for the occupants. This interior design makes it easy for someone to take a perfect relaxing seating position. To make that more soothing, the taxi provides gentle music playing through the speakers and calming videos on the screen to help passengers stay calm and forget their worries momentarily. Passengers with sensitive eyes are also provided with disposable sleep masks.
