Amidst Nigeria’s current economic “crunches”, the Imo State governor has been allegedly spotted in a convoy of 52 cars. This allegation was backed by a trending video that seems to have been recorded somewhere in Imo State. From the viral video, one could really see dozens of cars driving at high speed in what looks like the convoy of a Nigerian politician. The person who posted the video claimed that it was recorded in Owerri, the capital of Imo State. However, there is no official statement from the state government concerning this trending video.

The video allegedly showing governor Uzodinma’s convoy was posted to Twitter by a user with name Chidi Odinkalu. Media outlets claim that he is actually Prof. Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, the ex-chairman of NHRC (Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission). It is unclear whether he recorded the video by himself or someone else sent it to him.
Nevertheless, Chidi Odinkalu added a text caption highlighting the current economic crisis that Nigeria is facing. He pointed out that the country is having a “fiscal crisis” that is expected to cause a 52% deficit in the country’s 2023 budget. This makes it outrageous that a Nigerian governor is allegedly using a 52-car convoy at a time like this.

As you can see in the above video, more than 50 vehicles could be easily counted as part of Governor Uzodinma’s alleged convoy. It is however worth mentioning that the face of the governor did not show in the video at any point in time. So, it is unclear whether the vehicles were just travelling together for a purpose at that time or they were escorting the governor. But in any case, there will always be a valid debate about the cost of fueling and maintaining such a huge number of vehicles in one man’s convoy.
