New reports reaching us have it that Imo state police recently recovered a Lexus SUV after arresting some robbers disguised as officers. The three-man robbery syndicate met their waterloo this week in the hands of some operatives of the police command in Imo State. These armed men are said to specialize in disguising as policemen to rob unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables. CSP Michael Abattam, who happens to be the Police Public Relations Officer, has confirmed their arrest in an official statement. According to him, the police got a distress call on the 20th of July 2022 from a robbery victim claiming he spotted one of the robbers that snatched his Lexus SUV at gunpoint.

The Imo state police PRO said that a victim revealed that his Lexus 330 SUV with number plate RLU 08 AH was stolen on the evening of July 18 along Mbano Street, Aladinma Owerri in Imo State. The victim also informed the police that the armed robbery gang forced him into the booth of his car and took him to a deserted place where they took away his valuables. He revealed that the robbers also forced him to make a transfer of ₦100,000 to their account. The police spokesperson said they acted swiftly on the tip-off and were able to nab one 23-year-old Goodness Chinaza, who was a resident of Aladinma in Owerri. The suspect confessed during investigation that he was part of the robbery syndicate that snatched the car at gunpoint from the victim. Abattam explained that his confession made it easy for a team of operatives to nab another suspect, a 24-year-old Emeka Orji otherwise known as “COCO”. While they were unable to get hold of the fleeing third member of the gang, they found out the whereabouts of the stolen car from the two members. They recovered the Lexus car from the Rapour Hotel, Amakohia in Owerri.

Investigations have also confirmed that the robbery gang stole uniforms, bulletproof vests and other items from the apartment of a late police officer. Abattam said they used the stolen police uniform to disguise themselves as police officers, mounted road blocks and rid their victims of their properties. He added that after a thorough search of their apartment, the police operatives found a locally-made Double Barrel Shotgun and items they stole from the apartment they earlier broke into. The Imo state police spokesperson while quoting the CP, warned hotel owners to always pay attention to vehicles parked on their premises.
