Imo state government has revealed that it would criminalize appointees who worked with the immediate past government and left with official vehicles in their possession while in office. This was disclosed by Jasper Ndubuaku, Chairman of the committee on Recovery of Movable Government Assets, while speaking to the press in Owerri.

Ndubuaku stated that appointees in the Rochas Okorocha led government as well as the former governor and his wife parted with government assets and vehicles worth sixty billion naira. Efforts made by the committee including writing to the former appointees to recover the assets have proven abortive as they were yet to respond accordingly.

“After today, we will criminalize ex-appointees of the immediate past administration who have refused to return government assets,” he said.

The committee chairman further alleged that the former government officials looted items in the government house. According to him, the government will enforce the law to secure that all the things taken.

“We have written to them but they are proving stubborn. Do you know that the immediate past governor went home with all the cars in Government House? His wife, who is not recognized by the constitution went home with seven vehicles. The ADC to the immediate past governor left with six vehicles," he added.
