Just like Nigerians on social media usually say “Wahala be like Bicycle”; commuters in Lagos state will somehow suffer the effects of damages caused by some alleged hoodlums during the recent Lagos riots. Yes, this is evident from news reports claiming that the Lagos state government says 84 BRT buses were destroyed during the recent riot and these buses cost a whopping ₦3.9 billion to acquire. Shocking, isn’t it?

The government of Lagos State has stated in a new report that 84 BRT buses were damaged during the recent state-wide riots. A part of the government report listed the estimated cost of the buses as follows:
- 57 buses that cost of ₦38.1million ($100,000) each
- Another set of 27 buses that cost of ₦76.2million ($200,000) each
The report stating the above-listed estimated cost was released after the governor of Lagos state had inspected the damages caused during the riots. Mr Gbenga Omotosho, the commissioner for Information in Lagos State also confirmed the above-estimated costs to Punch Newspaper reporters. The commissioner reportedly mentioned that a part of the BRT park located in Oyingbo was also destroyed during the riot and the BRT terminal located at Ojodu Berger was not left out. He stressed that a total of 57 medium-size buses were destroyed by hoodlums while 23 big size BRT buses were burnt during the unrest.
