Gunmen attacked a bus traveling along the East-West road in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State at about 8am on Tuesday, June 18, 2019.

Eyewitnesses reportedly placed a frantic call through to a radio station in Port Harcourt, the state capital, disclosing that suspected armed robbers had taken charge of the Emohua-Oduoha road axis and held passengers captive.

Speaking on air to a live audience, one of the eyewitnesses who called in was reported saying: “Please, armed robbers have blocked the Emohua-Oduoha Federal Highway. All the passengers are surrounded.”

Confirming the incident, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, Rivers State Police Command Spokesman, stated that they received a distress call at the station about the attack by gunmen, but when his men arrived at the scene, they did not meet anyone.

“We received distress call. On the strength of it, police deployed men to that area but when they got there, they didn’t meet anybody and traffic had started flowing,” Omoni revealed.

Meanwhile, news on Dailypost.ng reported further of the case. They said the hijacked commercial bus had been recovered by the police. Driver and 3 passengers of the bus were kidnapped, taken into the bush. Mr. Omoni said he had contacted the company and DPO said they were working on the rescue.
