From a new traffic report getting to us, returning students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and other travelelrs were abducted from the vehicles they boarded by unknown gunmen on Sunday along Nsukka-Opi Road, Ekwegbe, a community in Igbo-Etiti LGA of Enugu State. This disturbing incident happened around 4pm when the students were returning to the institution for their resumed academic activities.

It was reported that the gunmen have been kidnapping travellers using the route since Saturday evening, which also continued on Tuesday. Following the suspension of the industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), that lasted for eight months, students of public institutions in the country are beginning to return back to schools. UNN, like other schools in Nigeria, announced resumption of lectures on Monday, asking all students to return back to campus for academic activities.
A source expressing her surprise while sharing the news on Twitter, said two vehicles were stopped along Nsukka Expressway with gunfire despite having over six security checkpoints in the area. She said all the passengers in the two vehicles were kidnapped by these gunmen. Other sources revealed that 6 vehicles were flagged down by the gunmen and all occupants were abducted. Daniel Ndukwe, who happens to be the police spokesperson in the state, confirmed the incident in an official statement on Wednesday 26th of October 2022. He noted that the Commissioner of Police in Enugu, Ahmed Ammani had ordered the deployment of security agents in the area to ensure adequate security and rescue the abducted passengers.
