Tragedy struck on Wednesday, May 25 when some gunmen abducted an expatriate supervising an Ondo road project and killed his driver. The armed men were suspected to be kidnappers because of the mode of their operation. The abducted expatriate has been identified as a Lebanese engineer working in Owo LGA, Ondo State. Press reports also claim that the soldier assigned as security escort to the engineer was killed by the armed men.

Several press reports confirmed that the shocking incident occurred on May 25 at about 5:00 pm in the evening time. The suspected kidnappers reportedly followed the Lebanese engineer to the construction site of the road project he was overseeing. The project was revealed to be a “Road Dualization Process” that was being executed in Owo town. A source told newsmen that the gunmen that carried out the attack were up to six in number. They reportedly approached the construction site and began shooting in the air as everyone took to their heels. Unfortunately, the soldier and personal driver of the Lebanese engineer were shot and killed on the spot. Meanwhile, they successfully abducted the engineer and took him away with them.

SP Funmilayo Odunlami, the spokesperson of Ondo State police command has confirmed this incident to newsmen. She assured us that all hands are on deck to secure the safe release of the kidnapped expatriate. Meanwhile, she called on the general public to give out any information that could help in tracking down the kidnappers. It is also worth mentioning that the commander of Ondo Amotekun Corps has assured that his men are working on the case as well.
