Born Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe, to parents who were mere canoe makers/farmers, on Wednesday the 20th of October 1957. This interestingly puts Goodluck Jonathan age at 64 years. His birthplace is Otueke, a riverine community sitting pretty on the edges of the Niger River's Delta that runs directly into the Atlantic Ocean. Yes, Goodluck was persuaded into politics, as the man preferred his quiet and peaceful teaching career to the turbulence of politics. Yes, it took a great deal of persuading talk and even coercing from the People's Democratic Party PDP stalwarts in Bayelsa State to convince Jonathan to become the running mate to the late Diepreye Alamieyeseigha who was contesting for Governor of Bayelsa State. Goodluck would hold the position of deputy governor until 2005 when he was sworn in as the Governor of Bayelsa State after the impeachment of his boss by the state assembly for money laundering. By 2007, Goodluck Jonathan was forced to drop his governorship ambitions as he was nominated by the People's Democratic Party PDP national working committee to serve as running mate to the party's presidential candidate, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua.
