Tragedy was averted recently when a toddler that was ejected from a vehicle into a bay close to Ocean City was rescued by a witness of the multiple-car accident. According to a report, the 5-car accident took place around 3 pm on a bridge over Assawoman Bay. This information was made public in an official statement by the fire department in the city.
The toddler was ejected into the bay from the seat in a pickup during a road crash
The 2-year-old girl was ejected from the seat in a pickup truck at the time when it was teetering over a guardrail. One of the eyewitnesses, who has been tagged as the hero, reportedly jumped into the bay from the bridge and saved the baby. Afterwards, a helicopter was used to fly the girl to John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where she is said to be receiving treatment and in stable condition.
So far, it is yet unclear what really led to this horrific multi-car crash, which inflicted varying degrees of injuries on at least 7 people. Unfortunately, we cannot get to find out the identity of the heroic witness due to the claim to anonymity.

From further reports, the incident was also witnessed by Joel Oertel, who at the time was in a boat with his family. It was his daughter Alayna that noticed the accident. From his Facebook post, he mentioned that when they got closer to the scene, they saw a man holding a baby. As a result, they got them on board shortly after they landed in the bay, where they raced to paramedics onshore. Joe Oertel also wrote on Facebook that the hero had no idea that the water was 4’-5’ deep. The man was in shock when he got into the boat with the toddler.
