5. Tips for traveling with GIGM buses

Keep to time

GIGM is quite keen on rules that apply to check-in. On your departure date, be sure to arrive at the terminal 30 minutes before the estimated time of departure. This is for your own good, as a departure will not be extended because of a passenger. However, if you have to reschedule your journey due to a change in travel plans or lateness, you have to pay a sum of 1000. Also, if you have to reschedule, be aware that getting another bus greatly depends on the availability of vehicles and seats.

Seat reservations can sometimes be altered

When you make seat reservations in advance, it might be altered on the departure date and this is due to the availability of vehicles. In cases where reservations are not fulfilled, your trip will be rescheduled to another departure time without additional cost. Note that this change will also affect your seat selection.

Limit on luggage

One guest or one ticket is entitled to medium-sized luggage with this specification - 30”x22”x15. In order to provide each guest with maximum comfort, GIGM does not accept luggage that exceeds this specification. In cases where you have excess luggage, you're are advised to pay for one extra seat or patronize GIG Logistics to convey your luggage.

  • Always use soft luggage when traveling, it makes luggage arrangement easier, as compared to plastic boxes.
  • To avoid being queried by the Nigerian Customs Service, GIGM vehicles can not convey foodstuff like bags of rice.
  • Fragile equipment like a laptop, television or any valuable electrical appliances has to be carried as hand luggage to avoid damage.
  • Toxic materials like generators, gas cylinders (empty or occupied), building materials, agrochemicals, fuel in gallons, pesticides, herbicides, etc, cannot be conveyed with GIGM vehicles. Guests are advised to use GIG Logistics for that purpose.
  • Be sure to keep an eye on your luggage once you're on the vehicle, especially when passengers are alighting.

>>> Here are Top 10 best road transport companies in Nigeria

The pick-up option is only available to light travelers

If you have just a piece of small luggage, you can request to be picked up from your home. In cases where a guest doesn't show up (either at the terminal or pick-up location) without proper reschedule, the ticket will be rendered void.

Discounts on children

GIGM offers 50% discount on tickets purchased for children, the following rules must, however, be followed:

  • This offer is only available to children within the age range of 2-10.
  • The children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • On the departure date, the parent or guardian must provide valid identification for the child or children. In the absence of a valid ID, a discount will be canceled.
  • One adult is allowed to travel with a maximum of 3 children.

Misplaced or forgotten items

GIGM will not be held responsible for any lost item as each traveler is advised to monitor their luggage closely. If GIGM officials happen to find a lost/forgotten item, it will be kept for 30 days, after which it will be thrashed.
