While electric vehicles are fast becoming a “norm” in other continents, Africa seems to be lagging behind in adopting the technology because of so many unresolved challenges.

However, a Nigerian automaker – JET Motor Company seems not discouraged at all by these challenges as it recently revealed that its team of engineers is already test-running a “would-be” first all-electric vehicle to be made in Africa.

The Nigerian auto company, JET Motor was established in 2017 and has since focused on redefining the automotive industry in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

The company launched the popular JET Mover bus model as well as many other luxury minibuses back in 2019 and they have all proven to be fit for the African terrain.

Going by news reports, Rupani Sanjay – the Sales and Marketing Director of JET Motors recently disclosed that the popular JET Mover passenger bus can actually be modified to become an ambulance, cargo van, school bus, tour bus or military cargo transporter van. This is more reason why the company is currently working towards launching an all-electric version of the JET Mover model in Africa.

JET Motors has reportedly raised up to billion ($9million) from Asian investors, GreatMan Legend, and Canadian-based ADC (Africa Development Capital) to finance its all-electric vehicle project which it claims would be first-of-its-kind in Africa.

The company also revealed recently that it has already signed a deal with GIGM (God is Good Motors) company to supply them 50 units of the all-electric JET EV bus in the coming 2 years. The marketing director, Sanjay explains that the company expects to commence real-life testing of the EVs by the third quarter of this year using GiGL’s pickup centers in Benin and Lagos as the first charging points.
