One might say that the Filipinos love to see supercars and other luxury cars crushed to the ground by the bulldozer. One of the best ways of passing away their time is destroying these expensive cars.
The smuggled luxury cars before they were destroyed by the authorities
One of the many incidents happened recently when the Bureau of Customs in the country destroyed twenty-one cars valued at an estimated $1.2 million. Some of the luxury cars that were destroyed include a Bentley Flying Spur, a Porsche 911, a McLaren 620R, a Lotus Elise, a Mercedes SLK, a Toyota Solara, 14 Mitsubishi SUVs and a customized Hyundai Genesis.

The destruction of the 21 vehicles in the Philippines was to send a strong message to the smugglers
The Bureau of Customs revealed that these vehicles were brought by different consignees into the Philippines and were confiscated on separate occasions between 2018 and 2020. The cars were destroyed after seizure from the “pursuant to Presidential Directive 2017-447”, where Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the president of Philippines, stated the need to destroy smuggled vehicles as a way of sending a powerful message to smugglers.

SMUGGLED HOT CARS DESTROYED BY BOC
Earlier this year, the country’s Bureau of Customs destroyed seventeen vehicles. It appears this activity is a regular occurrence in this country considering similar destruction of such in the past. Cars like Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari 360 Spider, Maserati Quattroporte, BMW Z1 and many others have all fallen victims of the war against smuggling in the Philippines.
Many consider the theatrics of destroying these expensive cars as unnecessary
While some people have been commending the government for taking smuggling seriously in the country by destroying these cars, many have questioned what they consider as a wasteful act. They believe it would be better if the government had auctioned these cars off and used the money for something more important. The authorities reacted by reiterating the need in letting the people know the country’s position on smuggling.
