It is no more news that the pump price of petrol fuel is more likely going to skyrocket in Nigeria when fuel subsidy is removed. Surprisingly, it seems as if the Nigerian government is fully aware of this possible outcome. Yes, a new report revealed that the Federal Govt is set to pay ₦5,000 monthly to poor Nigerians when the Fuel Subsidy is removed. This shocking update is said to have been made known to the public by no other than the minister of Finance herself.

The World Bank Nigeria Development Update was launched on Tuesday, 23rd of November 2021 and Nigeria’s minister of finance was present at the launching. While speaking at the event, she made a bold revelation that has now become the “talk of the town”. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed said that the Federal government will finally remove fuel subsidies by 2022. And to cushion the possible negative effects of this removal, the minister said FG will pay ₦5,000 monthly to poor Nigerians. According to the minister, a total of 30 – 40 million poor Nigerians will benefit from this monthly “transportation grant”. She further stressed that the actual number of beneficiaries will likely depend on how much resources remain after subsidy removal.
