Amidst the ongoing negotiations between the Federal government of Nigeria and the organized labour leaders, the Minister of State for Petroleum hints of a looming fuel scarcity scenario if oil workers go on proposed strike action. The minister, Mr Timipre Sylva, raised this concern during a late-night meeting held with organized labour leaders on Monday 1st of February 2021. He says that there might be a scarcity of petrol fuel (PMS) all over the country if the federal government and the organized labour leaders do not agree to a common ground anytime soon.
Nigeria’s minister of state for petroleum express worry over looming fuel scarcity across the country if Labour leaders go on strike
This update is coming after the leaders of organized labour vowed to make all Nigerian workers go on strike if the Federal government does not re-evaluate its recent increase of electricity tariff and price of fuel (Petrol). New press reports claim that the recent meeting between FG and the labour leaders didn’t really yield a solid result because only the technical committee working on PMS issue presented a report.
It was reported that the other committee deliberating on electricity tariff matters did not present its own report rather it promised that work is ongoing. Meanwhile, media sources claim that the report presented by the PMS committee duly highlights some of the key areas that the Federal government can improve to subsequently reduce the general pump price of PMS (petrol).
