An accident on Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway has left a mother dead, and her daughter injured after the car lost control and plunged into a river. See the photos!

An accident has occurred along the Benin-Expressway in Ijebu-Ode, Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State, killing a woman and leaving her daughter severely injured. According to eye-witnesses, the mother and daughter were riding in a Lexus SUV vehicle which lost control and dived into the Ososa river in the area.

The sad event was confirmed by Babatunde Akinbiyi – Public Relations Officer of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) in the state. He disclosed that the event which occurred at 2:40 pm on Sunday was as a result of over-speeding. The vehicle numbered JJJ 930 FL plunged into the river when she lost control of it.

Akinbiyi also revealed that the car was coming from Lekki in Lagos, and was on its way to Ijebu-Ode before the accident occurred. The Spokesman for TRACE further stated that:

“There were two occupants in the vehicle; the driver, who is a woman, and her daughter, who is a student of Tai Solarin University of Education.

“The woman was taking her daughter to school.

“As a result of speeding, the woman lost control of the vehicle and plunged the vehicle into the river.”

According to him, the daughter who survived the accident has been taken to the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital where she is receiving treatment. The vehicle has also been moved from the accident scene and kept at the organization’s Motor Traffic Division in Odogbolu.

As reported by Naijauto sometime in March, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, revealed that reckless driving was one of the leading causes of road accidents in the country. He advised drivers to apply caution while driving on the road, so as to get their destination safely.

As the popular saying goes: “It’s better late than never.” Naijauto advises drivers to abide by the recommended speed limits in the country.
