Falz Biography

Folarin Folana (commonly known as Falz) is a Nigerian rapper, actor, and songwriter. He was born in the Mushin LGA of Lagos State on October 27th, 1990 to highly esteemed lawyers, Femi and Funmi Falana. His music career allegedly started while in secondary school when he led a group known as “The School Boys” with his friends.

His professional career officially began in the year 2009 when he released a mixtape titled "Shakara", which contained a compilation of a few of his recordings.

Falz soon started acquiring fame and increased popularity soon after his well-known song 'Marry Me' was released. It featured the likes of Yemi Alade and Poe. His debut album 'Wazup Guy' was released in 2014, followed by his second, 'Stories that touch' which was made public in 2015. "27", which was his third album, was released in 2017 and was then followed by his fourth studio album, 'Moral Instruction' in 2019.

Falz finished his primary education at St. Leo's Catholic Primary School, Ikeja and his Secondary School education at Olashore International School, Osun State. He graduated with an LLB honours degree in Law from the University of Reading England and was called to the bar prior to his graduation from the Nigeria Law School in Abuja in 2012.

Falz played the role of Segun in Funke Akindele's much-acclaimed TV series "Jenifa's Diary" in June 2016, for which he wins an award for Best Actor in a comedy/movie series. He also played the role of Quam in Tope Oshin Ogun's movie 'New Money'.

Falz unveiled his new film production company in August 2020 which is named House2, while also taking time to showcase and publicize his new comedy series 'Therapy' which is to exclusively air on YouTube.

2015: For his song 'Marry Me', Falz got nominated for the award of Best Collaboration of the year. He also got a nomination for Best Street Hop Artiste of the Year for his track 'Ello bae'.

2016: He won awards for Album of the Year, Best hip hop video, and Best Collaboration for "Stories that touch", "Karashika", and "Soldier", respectively. Falz then got nominated for Best Music Video, Album of the year, Best African Newcomer, Best African Hip hop Video, Album of the Year, and Best Street Hop Artiste of the Year for "Karishika", "Stories that touch", "Bahd Baddo Baddest", and "Bad Gang", respectively.

2017: Falz got nominations for Alternative Artiste of the Year and Best Rap Act of the Year in the City People Music Award and Nigeria Entertainment Award, respectively. He as well received a nomination for the Best album of the year with Chemistry.

2018: Here he got nominations for Best Rap Single and Best Rap Album for Something light and 27, respectively.

2019: He got awards for Best Rap Single, Best Rap Album, and Album of the Year for his track Talk and album Moral Instruction.
