Since the outbreak of this deadly coronavirus, a lot of car events scheduled to hold this year were cancelled in a bid to curtail the spread of the virus. Notably, people have been prohibited from participating in social activities that would attract many people coming together. This rule was a lot harsher when the virus was at its peak but the governments of many countries in the world are beginning to soften the restrictions placed on movement and social events. Recently, up to 3,000 people stormed an automotive event in California, which makes the risks of the Coronavirus spread arise.
Thousands of people attended a car event that was planned for a few people in California amidst the coronavirus
From a new report reaching us, Loma Linda University Church hosted an auto event in California, United States recently, which was aimed at benefiting a homeless charity. In order to adhere to the social distancing rule, the planners of the event actually expected around 24 cars to come for the event.
Shockingly, according to the estimates from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, over 3000 people showed up for the car show. To further worsen it, the attendees didn’t obey the stay-in-your-car policy planned for the event. Most of them came out of their cars, creating more risks of the spread of the virus.

The intended small car show became an event that was classified by government officials as “potential coronavirus super spreader event”. Thousands of vehicles were crammed by people into the parking lot of the show. The event also created massive traffic gridlock that blocked the movement of people that needed medical emergencies from getting to the hospital.

Consequently, they had to shut down the car show while the police department issued several traffic citations. The church, however, released a statement, apologizing on the adverse effect of the car show that created problems for campus security, hospital, police department and people around.
According to the church, it was a failure from their side to project the possibility of the car event exceeding their expectations. They also promised to carefully evaluate the incident so that such incidents do not reoccur in the future.
