We learned that the governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, in a recent development, presented 5 Innoson firefighting trucks to the fire service in the state. The newly acquired IVM fire trucks will be used by the 5 new fire service stations in the 3 senatorial districts within the state. This, according to reports, will aid effective response to emergencies and efficiency.

At this strategic event, 62 men and officers of the state fire service, recruited and trained by the administration, reportedly had their passing-out parade.
The Secretary to the State, Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, while representing the Enugu State Governor, reassured people of the commitment of the current dispensation in ensuring safety and safeguarding of lives and properties of people in the state. He furthered disclosed the interest of the government in continuing its intervention and partnering with firefighting agencies in this regard, especially in the dry season.

Such precautionary and collaborative efforts were noted by the governor, considering the feat achieved in aborting the fire outbreak at the Ogbete Main Market in the state. He, however, commended the chief fire officer in Enugu State, Engineer Okwudiri and his workers for their resilience, diligence and utmost professionalism.

Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, who happens to be the Commissioner for Information in the state, confirmed the handing over of these firefighting trucks to the newsmen, reiterating the willingness of the present administration towards wellbeing and safety of people of Enugu State. This to him has been demonstrated many times.

In his address, the Chief Fire Officer in the state expressed much joy that he is holding the position "at this time Enugu State Fire Service has been transformed from a moribund department to an effective, efficient, vibrant and responsive department through the unwavering support of the present administration led by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi".
"Enugu State Fire Service has seen massive improvement through this administration of which some of the areas include, building and furnishing of five new ultra modern fire stations across the three senatorial zones of the state, increased hazard allowance for fire service personnel from N200 to N5000, which is among the highest in the country, provision of fire fighter suits and service uniforms for all the staff regularly, provision of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and other firefighting aids for protection and safety of the state fire fighters.
"Constant supply and availability of chemicals used for fighting all types of fires, promoting our drive in creating public awareness on fire safety and prevention, recruitment of 11 drivers in 2016 and 51able bodied men into the job in 2019, capacity building through personnel training including international trainings and procurement of fire appliances and equipment vehicles, including the five new fire fighting trucks, which will be handed over to us today".
