The press release was issued at the 14th meeting of the Joint Tax Board held in Abuja.

The Board stated that,

"The enforcement of the new vehicle number plates shall commence with effect from January 1, 2020, upon the expiration of the one-year period of grace granted for the replacement of old vehicle number plates."

As read by Naijauto, the statement said that based on the amended Personal Income Tax Act, the state revenue authorities as supervised by the State Joint Revenue Committee, should collaborate with all relevant local government council authorities and stakeholders to execute the unified emblem/stickers and absolute termination of any type of unauthorized sale of emblem/stickers across the country.

The board came to the decision that every state should endeavour to execute the Class 'A' driver’s licence, while making sure all vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles are properly registered.
