#EndSARS: NPA laments the destruction of 60 vehicles by hoodlums in Lagos

A group of hoodlums have reportedly vandalized and razed down vehicles and the administrative building of the Nigerian Ports Authority. See how!

As an negative impact of the call for the end of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), many privately and publicly-owned properties have been looted and destroyed by hoodlums all over the country. One of the latest incidents was the vandalism of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) headquarters in Marina Area of Lagos

According to Hadiza Bala Usman, who happens to be the MD of the Nigerian Ports Authority, these hoodlums of almost 300 in number gained access to their office building, where they vandalized sections of the agency.  During her assessment of the extent of these damages, she revealed that the hoodlum completely burned down 27 vehicles parked in the premises while 33 vehicles were vandalized.

The NPA Managing Director further disclosed that the agency is yet to evaluate the real value of the vandalized properties because of the presence of the insurance companies, who are still examining the whole situation. The mob also made away with valuable office equipment like computers, printers, water dispensers and many others.

Meanwhile, similar case occurred when scores of people were injured while several vehicles were vandalized by hoodlums' attack on End SARS peaceful protesters recently in the Berger Area of Abuja.

Usman said the criminal activities were carried out in two days, respectively on the 20th and 21st of October, 2020. The yet-to-be-identified people raided their corporate headquarters and Tin-Can Island Port around 9.45 am. The hoodlums were also able to set the cargo truck on fire. According to her, the attacks would have been worse if not for the intervention of the men of the Nigerian Customs Service, Nigerian Army and mobile police force.

The attackers after laying siege on the administrative building of the agency were able to disarm and chase the security officers on duty out of the premises. Some of the vehicles vandalized and razed belong to some of the workers of the NPA. Afterwards, the hoodlums reportedly decided to wrap up their violent operations by setting section of the building on fire.
