While many people today know Elon Musk as the billionaire CEO of electric car manufacturing company, Tesla Motors, only a few people remember that he used to be, heads over heels in love with some specific petrol-powered cars. Oh yes, the electric car expert himself was captured on camera showing serious excitement back in 1999 when he took delivery of his first petrol-powered supercar. Quite interesting, isn’t it?

According to reliable sources, Elon Musk once owned a Jaguar E-Type, McLaren F1, BMW E21 320i and the special Lotus Espirit (submarine car) which was featured in a 007 movie titled “The Spy Who Loved Me”. As a matter of fact, a 1999 CNN interview video literally captured the moment when Elon Musk was seen overly excited when taking delivery of his million-dollar McLaren F1 supercar.
Below is the above-mentioned CNN video clip.

Back in 1999, the starting price of the petrol-powered McLaren F1 supercar was ₦310.7million ($815,000), which is more reason why it was being referred to as the “million-dollar car” in the video. Apart from the interesting price tag, the McLaren F1 was actually the fastest naturally-aspirated supercar in the world back then in 1999 and even today. Many car experts believe that Elon Musk had a great taste in cars because he was just 28 years old when he took delivery of that McLaren F1 supercar. Unfortunately, the young Elon Musk ended up wrecking the very rare supercar just a few years later and media sources claim that he never insured the car throughout the time he used it.
