Fresh reports reaching us claim that a certain police officer was recently arrested by men of the Edo state police command for killing an innocent passenger with stray bullets on Friday in Benin, the capital city. Quite shocking and disappointing, isn't it?
Edo police have arrested a trigger-happy officer whose stray bullets recently killed a young man in a moving vehicle
SP Kontongs Bello, the Police Public Relations Officer in Edo state has confirmed the details of this report via a statement issued last Saturday in Benin city. He revealed that the erring officer, who is a member of the anti-kidnap and cybercrime unit of the command, was attempting to nab a murder suspect when he fired a shot to prevent him from escaping.
According to SP Kontongs Bello, the erring personnel during the chase mistakenly shot the thigh of one of the passengers in a moving vehicle. The victim was rushed to the Edo Specialist Hospital where he later gave up the ghost. The statement further disclosed that the deceased was identified as Moses Adam. It was also reported that SP Kontongs Bello said the erring police officer will go through an administrative trial which will determine whether he should be treated as being guilty or not.
It was noted by the Police PRO that Phillip Ogbadu, the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, visited the family of the deceased passenger to give his condolences following the heartbreaking incident. Several media sources also claim that the Commissioner of police in Edo state has now ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police to further investigate the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time a police officer on duty will be accused of killing an innocent civilian with stray bullets. Back in 2017, a similar incident report went viral but not much was later heard of how the case was treated. Watch this press video below to get more details of the viral 2017 incident report.
