A head-on collision between Edo governor's convoy and an Audi has killed seven persons, including 2 children. The accident took place on Benin/Auchi expressway. See more details below!

Seven persons including five adults and two children were killed on Saturday morning in a ghastly car crash involving an Audi car and the Edo Governor's advance team on the Benin/Auchi expressway.

Many others were reported to have sustained injuries in the accident, among which is the governor's driver.

An eyewitness said the crash happened at Ehorin Uhunmwode LGA and that it was a head-on collision between a Toyota Hilux van conveying Governor Obaseki's advance team and an Audi car.

Naijauto gathered that the advance team was going for a convocation at Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma.

Three persons who survived the accident were rushed to Central Hospital Benin for medical attention. For the governor's driver, another arrangement was made to take him to a private hospital.

FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr. Anthony Oko, who confirmed the crash said,

"It had nothing to do with the governor's convoy".

He noted that the entire occupants of the Audi car lost their lives while the governor's driver, who was driving the Hilux van, only sustained minor injuries.


Victims' families will get adequate support from the government

While reacting to the news, the governor's Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr.Crusoe Osagie, said,

"We have confirmed from the Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps details of the accident involving the advance team of the governor’s protocol team.

The development is extremely sad. We commiserate with the families of the victims and pray that God grant them the fortitude to bear the painful loss.

From our findings, the Audi vehicle lost its tyre and ran into a pothole, before colliding with the Hilux vehicle, which was conveying protocol officers from Edo State Government House."

He also said the families affected in the crash would receive adequate support from the government to help lessen the effect of the accident on them
