The Ebonyi State Police Command has condemned the barbaric act carried out by some villagers when five schoolchildren when crushed last Tuesday by a truck conveying water at Onu-Nworie Egu Village, Oshiri in Onicha Local Government.
Driver of a water tanker and his boy conductor were killed by an angry mob, for crushing 5 pupils
From the statement issued by the police on Thursday, the 5 victims crushed to death were of similar parents and also pupils of St. Michael School in Oshiri. Mrs Loveth Odah, who happens to be the Ebony State police PRO, revealed that in honour of those that lost their lives as a result of this tragedy, 2-minute silence was held by Police Commissioner, Phillip Maku, before the start of the day’s duty.

She further disclosed that the children were buried that same day, as consented by their families. Odah stated that the state’s police command frown upon the act of revenge through jungle justice in melting punishment to the driver and conductor of the vehicle involved, by people in the village.
The truck driver identified as Innocent Ewa and his young conductor, Denis, were mobbed to death by angry villagers who, according to the police, took laws into their hands. The dead bodies of the driver and the conductor have been deposited at the morgue. In other news, angry mob set truckload of rice on fire after killing 16 people in Ondo recently.

The Police PRO decried the unwarranted death of the truck driver and conductor, which came at the time when the nation is still trying to recover from Covid-19 pandemic and vandalism of properties during the #EndSARS protest.
From what we learnt, the truck driver initially fled from the accident scene before he was chased down at Onicha Igboeze by the angry youths, who reportedly lynched him and his boy conductor.
