New information has reached us concerning the tragic event that happened last Wednesday in Asu village, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. According to report, one motorcyclist identified as Juwon Mumuni was crushed to death by the operational vehicle of the Nigeria Customs Service men.

From what we learnt, the officers of the Federal Operating Unit of Customs were involved in this horrific incident. The operatives were reportedly in pursuit of some rice smugglers when their vehicle crushed the okada rider, who was also a lotto operator.
According to a lawyer and also the spokesperson to the family of the deceased identified as Ganiyu Kusanwo, the 35-year-old Mumuni used the motorcycle business as an alternative source of income.
The deceased was approaching the main road, where he crushed by the van of the customs officers, chasing rice smugglers. This unfortunate event happened when the driver lost control of the vehicle at the junction of Asu village due to reckless driving.

As a result, Mumuni was seriously injured, which took a toll on his ribs, face and legs. The lawyer further revealed that the motorcyclist was taken to the Ijaye General Hospital by the NCS operatives, where he was rejected. He was later rushed to Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta, where he was pronounced dead by the doctor.
Kusanwo said the operatives of the NCS dropped him at the hospital and fled. Also, they were unable to reach Ahmed Oloyede, who is the PRO of the Nigeria Customs Service. Abimbola Oyeyemi, who is the Ogun State Police PRO, disclosed that he hadn’t been duly informed about the tragic incident.
