China's Mercedes G-Wagon clone to celebrate China’s 70th birthday anniversary

Latest news at Naijauto gathers that BAIC - Chinese automaker Beijing Auto Industry Corporation has introduced a limited edition of its hot selling Mercedes G-Wagon clone in celebration of its 70th birthday anniversary of China on 1 October 1949.

This special edition SUV – BJ80 70th Anniversary Edition – comes in bright red colour, which symbolizes the China’s national flag according to BAIC.

The special edition Mercedes G-Wagon rip-off by the BAIC is a delightful way of celebrating China's 70th birthday anniversary 

The special edition G-Wagon gets 20-inch wheels, several anniversary logos and badges on the exterior and the interior.

The off-roader is powered by turbo Saab 2.3-liter engine with an output of 250 hp and 350 pound feet of torque. The engine comes mated with 6-speed automatic transmission.

There is no way Mercedes would take any legal measure prior to the imitation of its iconic G-Wagon by BAIC since the original automaker own twelve percent stake in the Chinese automaker and is also involved in a partnership called Beijing-Benz.

For its exterior design, it features Mercedes G-Wagon-inspired boxy shape and that of the popular Beijing-made Jeep Cherokee - Beijing Qishi S12.

The automaker has placed several anniversary badges and logo on the inside and outside

Nigerian-made IVM G80 SUV by Innoson is a mid-size 4WD variant of Luxury BJ80J SUV. The military version BJ80J, diesel-powered BJ80D and the Czech-made SVOS 80 are all variants of this luxury special edition model.

BAIC will be making 700 examples of this model but they are yet to reveal its actual price. The base BJ80 model is valued between 288,000 yuan (15m) to 298,000 yuan (15.5m), which is exclusive of the clearing and shipping cost to Nigeria.
