Naijauto.com celebrates with the Jaguar brand as they won in Europe for the first time ever “Car of the Year” award with the Jaguar I-Pace.
The Alpine A110 which is of course not a car in mass production was surprisingly edged out by the 4-wheel drive Jaguar I-Pace after these two tied up for the top honours in the 1st round of voting carried out by automotive journalists in dozens.
This award was first of its kind ever gotten by Jaguar which was initially a British brand but now owned by Tata Motors of India that touted the very new platform used for the awarded Jaguar I-Pace.
This recent award presentation which has been established since 1964, now marks the start (unofficial) of the Geneva Auto Show’s 89th edition.
The other five finalists included Peugeot 508, Mercedes Benz A-Class, Kia Ceed, Ford Focus, and Citroen C5 Aircross.
These finalists had been winnowed down from a huge list of 60 initially considered models, and the road tests for these cars had begun since October 2018 while the final tests were carried out 2 weeks ago at a particular test centre which is outside Paris.
This award is definitely a potential sales generator for the Jaguar brand as it has been organized by seven big European magazine companies and awarded by sixty journalists who were gathered from close to 2 dozen countries all over the world.
Quick Reminder: The compact SUV – Volvo XC40 was the model that bagged this same award last year.
