Car crash between Toyota HiAce bus & DAF Trunk claims 17 lives in Kwara

No fewer than 17 people have lost their lives at a spot in Kwara as a result of drivers over speeding. Read the details below!

17 persons have been confirmed dead following a car crash which happened at Bacita Junction on Ilorin/Jebba/Mokwa highway on Thursday.

Reports reaching Naijauto say the crash was between an 18-seater Toyota Hiace van and an articulated DAF trunk loaded with containers.

It was reported that the auto crash was as a result of dangerous driving and over speeding as both vehicles collided into each other at a sharp bend on the expressway.

An eyewitness said the accident didn't only kill 17 people, but two persons occupying the DAF truck sustained severe injuries.

The Head of Operations, FRSC, Kwara command, Mr. Udeme Eshiet, confirmed the fatal crash.

He narrated that the Toyota Hiace bus was going to Ilorin while the DAF truck was heading to Jebba, Kwara North District when the accident happened.

He said,

"Due to excess speeding in which the two drivers were involved while driving their vehicles at the time when the crash occurred, they could not negotiate the sharp bend properly, and when they eventually met, it resulted in head on collision."

He advised motorists to be cautious while driving on expressways, especially during the rainy season to prevent an avoidable crash. He also pointed out the need for passengers to either caution or report any driver that drives recklessly to law enforcement personnel.

The dead bodies have been deposited at a morgue while the injured victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.
