A young man was allegedly killed and robbed by people he sold his car to after they trailed him home. Find out how to be safe when selling your car!

A twitter user with the handle @roobainJayJay shared a sad tale that will make you feel bad. According to him, his friend sold his car to some buyers who paid him in cash. After what seemed like a successful business transaction, the buyers trailed him to his house, took the money they paid him earlier, and killed him.

He was a young man with his whole life ahead of him!

To cover their tracks, the suspects created a scene to create the impression that the deceased committed suicide by drinking acid. A cup of acid was found beside the bed while the body of the deceased laid on the bed. For one who supposedly drank acid, the inside of his mouth was not burnt.

“They tried to make the scene look like he killed himself… The put acid in a glass cup and kept beside the bed; but his body was found on bed, covered under the blanket ; how in the hell can you drink acid

“And you the so-called friend the deal was done involving you, you didn’t come for the burial; you travelled the next day after he dead… Well..!! Don’t rest yet bro, please don’t…

“They tried to make the scene look like he killed himself… The put acid in a glass cup and kept beside the bed; but his body was found on bed, covered under the blanket ; how in the hell can you drink acid and not struggle before you die? And your lips and tongue unburnt? How?”

Hopefully, the matter will be investigated by the police to ascertain what exactly transpired. In the meantime, you need to be careful if you ever need to sell your car directly to people.

Safety measures to take when selling your car directly to people

As terrible things like this continue to happen, one has to be very careful in order not to be a victim. Take the following steps when selling your car to people for your safety.

  • Meet up in a public place

All your meetings with the buyer(s) should be in a public place. It is not advisable to have them come to your house. If possible, take the car to a mechanic, and have them come check it there. It is unsafe to have strangers know where you live.

  • Do not accept cash payment

Nigeria may not have attained the cashless policy totally, but many transactions are done without cash. Have the buyer(s) transfer the money to you via online banking. If they say they are not conversant with this, let them go pay the cash into your bank account. With this, you will have no money on you for someone to steal, or make false claims about the payment.
