It was indeed a laudable achievement for Super Falcons striker, Desire Oparanozie, who was honoured with a bus-stop in Guingamp, France.

According to what we learnt, this exciting information was confirmed via Twitter in a published photo. The naming was only temporarily done when the World Cup was ongoing in France. At the time, she was part of the Nigerian national female team that took part in the tournament.

From reports, every train station in France was named after the captains of national teams that featured in the competition. Oparanozie was honoured with the Vaulx-en-Velin La Grappinière Bus-stop in Guingamp, France.

In 2014, the Super Falcons footballer moved from Ataşehir Belediyespor, a Turkish side, to Guingamp, a side which plays in France.

She appeared for the Guingamp in 106 times with an impressive 45 goals. The 26-year-old Oparanozie was bestowed with the captainship role during the 2019/20 campaign, which was further cemented with 3 points after a win over Metz in their first match of the season.

She left Guingamp, where she spent 6 years, on the 30th of June after signing a 2-year deal with her new club Dijon FCO which also plays in France. The 4-time winner of Africa Women’s Cup had also made three appearances at the women’s Club Cup. She started her professional club career with the Bayelsa Queens, a club side in the Nigerian Women’s league.

Her footballing journey has been quite an exciting one, playing with different clubs in many countries outside Nigeria. She played for Düvenciler Lisesispor, a club in the Turkish Women’s First League on loan in 2011.

The Super Falcons captain plied her trade in Russia where she played briefly for Rossiyanka, a club in the Russian Women’s Football Championship. She also signed a 2-year contract with Wolfsburg, a clubside in the German Bundesliga for the 2013/14 season.

Despite being just a female player in a far-away land, it is safe to say she has toured across Europe in her football journey and made her name, which not many of even richest footballers in Nigeria can do!
