Earlier this month, we reported how a woman returning from an auto shop plunged her car into a river in Osogbo, Osun State. In her own case, she was lucky enough to survive the near-death ordeal. Such wasn't the case with people that were inside a bus that recently plunged into a river in Ogun State. According to traffic reports reaching us, two people lost their lives and eight people were seriously injured in the shocking incident involving a Toyota Hiace bus that fell into Ososa River in Ogun State.

This unfortunate incident happened after J4 Ogbere along the Benin-Ore highway in the Odogbolu LGA of Ogun State. Florence Okpe, the Public Education Officer of Ogun State FRSC confirmed this incident in her recent statement. According to her, a brake failure leading to loss of control was solely responsible for the tragic event that occurred around 9:30 pm on Sunday, November 21. As a result, the vehicle ended up in the river causing loss of lives and injuries. Okpe said two vehicles were involved in the accident that led to a bus plunging into the Ogun river. The first vehicle, a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number APP 867 XZ and a truck with registration number KJA 376 XN.

Florence Okpe explained that ten people were victims of this fatal accident, including five males and five females. Eight people comprising three males and five females were inflicted with varying degrees of injuries. Two adult males according to her, were killed in this accident. Like most accidents that happened recently on Nigerian roads, the main reason for this collision was reckless driving. The corpses of those that lost their lives have been deposited at the morgue while those with injuries were rushed to the state General Hospital in Ijebu-ode for treatment. While commiserating with the families that lost their people in the horrific accident, Florence Okpe urged motorists to exercise caution and refrain from speeding especially at night.
