Renowned French luxury sports carmaker, Bugatti, has reportedly issued an urgent recall for some units of its super expensive hypercar models because of a recently detected software glitch. Media sources claim that the urgent recall only affects a few customers in some parts of North America and not “globally” as critics might want to allege. It was also explained that the detected software glitch poses the risk of hampering the proper functionality of the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) in the affected hypercar units.

According to NHTSA’s summary of this new recall, if a user selects the “Handling Mode” from the Drive Mode switch on any of the affected Bugatti hypercars, the ESC sometimes refuses to automatically switch back to its “full-function” original Mode after a complete ignition cycle. What’s even worse about this issue is the fact that it actually makes the affected hypercar models become non-compliant with the United States’ Federal Motor Safety Standard (#126) of ESC systems.
It should be noted that Bugatti had initially detected this issue and began issuing a software update to fix the glitch over the past few months. Unfortunately, it had to still order an urgent recall for some 79 units that are believed to be 100% affected but they are currently in the custody of some “private owners”. News outlets claim that the 79 affected hypercars will have to be individually inspected by authorized Bugatti technicians and fixed for FREE. Also, it was stated in media reports that the affected Bugatti Chiron models were rolled out between Dec 21 2017, and Sept 21 2020. Similarly, the affected Bugatti Chiron Sports models were made between Nov 28 2018, and Sept 21 2020, while the affected Bugatti Divo models were produced between July 24 2020, and Oct 29 2020.
