New press reports claim that residents, commuters and motorists in Edo State are now groaning over the total blockage of main roads and highways by #EndSARS protesters. Over the last weekend, there were lots of reports claiming that Benin which is the capital of the city of Edo State had all of its exit and entry points blocked by the #EndSARS protesters. As a matter of fact, it is now believed that the protesters are specifically using this blockage of major roads as a strong part of their protest.

According to reports by SUNONLINE news site, the #EndSARS protesters in Edo State initially blocked the popular Benin-Lagos expressway on Friday16th of October 2020. Later the next day, the protesters allegedly moved to block almost all of the exit and entry points in Benin City so much that no one could easily access Benin through the street roads. The reports also claimed that residents who went for Sunday worship got stranded around the Upper Ekenwan road due to the blockage by the protesters.

Based on recent reports from various media outlets, we have listed below some of the notable main roads and areas in Benin City that are reportedly facing traffic issues due to protests.

  • Ugbowo Campus Main gate of UNIBEN (affects Benin-Lagos expressway)
  • Roads at Agen Aluminium area
  • Agho Junction at Ekenwan Axis of Benin (the Evbuotubu end)
  • Roads in Agbor and Aduwawa axes of Benin (mainly Ramat Park gateway)
