The Bayelsa State House of Assembly members have granted Governor Douye Diri's request for a ₦2.9 billion car loan which will be used to purchase utility vehicles for himself, the deputy governor and other high ranking government officials in the state.

Governor Diri's car loan was approved by the Assembly members during a plenary session held on Tuesday, March 4.And as Naijauto gathered, the motion was moved by Hon. Monday Bubou-Obolo, the house leader.
Hon Bubou-Obolo, who happens to be the past Speaker of the house, told the members the intended loan would be repaid within 36 months.
The motion was collectively supported by the lawmakers which saw the ₦2.9 billion car loan being approved for the new governor.
Douye Diri, the PDP governorship candidate was sworn into office on February 14 following the Supreme Court's nullification of the Bayelsa State 2019 governorship election where former governor David Lyon, APC candidate emerged the winner.
David Lyon of the APC party was sacked from being Bayelsa State governor by the Supreme Court over a matter that has to do with his running mate, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo. Justice Mary Odili and members of her panel ruled Biobarakuma was guilty of presenting false information on his certificate to INEC.
Lyon's deputy was accused of having inconsistencies in his certificates, from primary school to his MBA result.

The Assembly members also used the plenary session to call upon the Ministry of Health in the state and other connected agencies to device means of preventing coronavirus outbreak in Bayelsa State.
Governor Diri's administration was advised to fund an enlightenment campaign that will provide the necessary information on the coronavirus epidemic to the public in different dialects as a preventive measure.
