The unit handling advertisement for the popular German auto company, Volkswagen Group has been called out by critics claiming that the company’s recent Twitter Ad (promo) photo sexualizes a small girl. This is the recent Twitter Ad photo posted by Volkswagen Group to promote the Audi RS4 Avant but it’s being condemned by critics

The above Ad photo was posted by Audi on its official Twitter page on Sunday 2nd of August, 2020 by the advertisement unit of the automaker. The photo clearly shows a little girl leaning against the front grille of an Audi RS4 Avant while appearing to be eating a big banana. The Ad photo was posted with an accompanying message that reads;

“Lets your heart beat faster – in every aspect. #AudiRS4”

While many people might find this Ad photo as harmless or maybe “dope”, it has actually sparked an outburst of criticism in the internet space by some users that find it “sexually” provocative. Apart from arguing about what the image depicts, critics also allege that the Ad simply shows that anyone driving the Audi RS4 Avant would hardly be able to see a kid in front of its grille – meaning that the vehicle can easily kill children. Quite strong allegations and criticism, isn’t it?

Meanwhile, Audi has also responded swiftly to the critics by tendering a public apology the following day after the Ad was posted. The automaker explained in its apology tweets that it does care for kids, which is why it used a little girl for the promo because the Audi RS4 Avant was meant to be a family car.

According to recent BBC reports, Audi described the controversial Ad photo as simply a “mistake” while apologizing for the “insensitive” image. The company has also reportedly promised to have a thorough internal review of the campaign and other related issues.
