The army has warned motorists plying the Maiduguri/Damaturu road of irregular security checkpoints mounted by Boko Haram.

With the recent rise in the activities of insurgents in the Northern part of the country, the Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj.Gen.Olusegun Adeniyi has warned motorists and commuters against pulling over at irregular security checkpoints mounted on the Maiduguri/Damaturu road.

Intelligence reports show Boko Haram are mounting roadblocks and using it to attack motorists

Maj.Adeniyi made this known in Maiduguri after the army received intelligence reports stating that Boko Haram was placing roadblocks on Maiduguri/Damaturu road, and using it to attack motorists and commuters.

He gave the names of the designated checkpoints as Auno, Njimtilo, Ngamdu, Jakana, and Kukareta.

The commander said the military has increased their presence on the road by deploying more personnel who are now on regular patrol, making it safe for road users. He added that the new approach has prevented the insurgents from launching an attack at residents and commuters along the highway.

He said,

The problem is that Boko Haram dressed in Nigeria army stolen uniforms, having painted Hilux in Nigeria army special camouflage colours, stop some vehicles and abduct innocent Nigerians.

So between Maiduguri and Damaturu, I have ordered that no checking of persons except at recognized checkpoint inside Auno, Jakana, Minok, Banishaik, Ngamdu, Kukareta.

Those checkpoints have been there for years and they do not even check individuals, they just make sure Boko Haram do not sneak terrorists and IED-laden vehicles into the two cities.

So if anybody is being asked to stop in between these towns, he should be very wary. A lot of soldiers and other security personnel are on that road 24 hours,

He said,

Other military operations were carried out on the road and several kilometres away from the road. More resources are being put on that road because we realized how vital that road is to all Nigerians

Maj.Adeniyi revealed that the Boko Haram terrorist group is using the ISIS-style, which is, trying to win the hearts and minds of the populace by refraining from attacking them, with a view to establishing a caliphate.

He said,

When they enter villages, they will tell them (people) not to run, that they should cool down that they are not there to harm them.

They are doing this in the hope that they are going to form whatever geographical entity that also runs a fake state like ISIS.

Maj. Adeniyi stated that huge military operations are currently going on in the Northeast to annihilate the insurgents and rescue abducted victims.
