As insecurity lingers in the country, kidnapping, extortion and robbery are some of the activities perpetuated by some individuals and gangs of criminals. While we commend the efforts of the security agencies across the country in curbing these menaces, it appears the numbers of these hoodlums are increasing day by day. From the latest report getting to us, Anambra police recently rescued a victim from the boot of a Lexus car in the community of Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate. The rescued victim whose identity is yet to be made public was freed by operatives of the police command in Anambra State after he was kidnapped by gunmen in Agulu, Anaocha LGA.

The victim was reported to have been abducted in the hometown of Mr Peter Obi, the presidential flagbearer of the Labour Party in the 2023 election. The man was taken in the early hours of Saturday, June 25 and forced into the boot of a Lexus saloon car before they took off. Fortunately for him, he was rescued by the police officers following an intelligent report. DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who is the police spokesperson in the state, confirmed this incident in a statement. He revealed that the man was rescued around 4 pm on Saturday, the 25th of June from the boot of a car.

The police spokesperson in Anambra State disclosed that police operatives were able to recover two cars; a Lexus sedan with registration number EPE 316 HE and a Ford SUV with registration number GCE 769 FT in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State. Following a tip-off, the police team regrouped and intensified their efforts around the area. Due to their strategic positioning, the hoodlums were left with no choice but to abandon the kidnapped victim in his car. They also left their operational vehicle before they fled. The police PRO added that the police are presently hunting the fleeing kidnappers after securing the safety of the abducted victim.
