The governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode opened the Bariga Waterfront Jetty on Tuesday. Reports reaching Naijauto says it was inaugurated with seven ferries as starters and a new access road constructed in Ilaje-Bariga area, Lagos State.
Governor Ambode said that the project was aimed at easing congestion in the roads and spurring people towards the use of water transportation.

He explained that the ferry transportation service will assist Ilaje-Bariga residents to access similar jetties situated at Ikorodu, Falomo, Badore and Marina areas of the state.
This jetty has a 150-car parking lot to enable motorists park their cars comfortably and get on a ferry to other parts of the state. “The new Ilaje road will serve as a good access road to the jetty as well as the opening up of the community.
Of the seven new ferries we are commissioning today, four are passenger ferries while one is a car barge which can move cars to the other jetties as may be required by people, who want to drive in the other locations.

Abode said that the state is on the right path with its goal of incorporating various means of transportation, which will keep having a positive impact in the lives of the masses.
He was also hopeful that his successor who would be taking over the next administration would follow the progressive strides that have been recorded in the state for the past 20 years.
Mr. Ambode will leave the office at the end of May, which means he has around 2 weeks more to go. However, the governor said he would leave happily.

Seven brand new ferries were present at the inauguration
Mr. Ade Akinsanya, Lagos State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, said the amenities will strengthen the economy of the state. As stated by Mr.Akinsanya, the car park can take in at least, 150 cars and as for the 1.1 km access road, it has a bicycle lane with street lights installed.
Also present at the inaugural ceremony is High Chief Kayode Ayetiwa, the Baale of Ilaje-Bariga, who expressed his gratitude to the governor for putting in place the facilities. He said there will be ease of movement for Bariga residents to other areas.
