100,000 Rivian electric delivery vans have just been ordered by the Amazon, e-commerce giant, on the directive of their CEO - Jeff Bezos. Check more details below!

Just recently, giant e-commerce, Amazon, with the directive of its CEO and world’s richest man Jeff Bezos, ordered 100,000 units of Rivian’s electric delivery trucks, just few months after making a huge investment of $700m in the Tesla rival, based in Michigan.

Amazon's electric delivery trucks will operate in full fleet by 2024

By 2021, Naijauto believes we should expect to see the delivery of these specially designed Amazon delivery vans. By 2020, 10,000 units of those should be plying the road already, with full operation in the company’s fleets by 2024.

These amazon-exclusive vans will be based on bespoke R1T Pickup truck and R1S SUV by Rivian, introduced in November 2018. The company already set a sales plan in motion for the newly unveiled vehicles, to commence by 2020. The new vehicles will come fitted with options of 3 battery packs and a driving range of between 240 miles to 400 miles.

About Rivian

Based in Michigan, Rivian was established in 2009, with an estimated $1.9 billion financial assistance from investors. Amazon in February, made an investment worth $700 million into Rivian, in a bid to rid itself of gasoline powered vehicles by 2040.

Just last April, car manufacturer, Ford, also made a $500 million investment into Rivian, in order to produce a new vehicle in North America, using Rivian’s bespoke EV platform.

Amazon Orders 100K Rivian Delivery Vans 

Looks like things are pretty set for this startup EV automaker financially as another investment of $350 million was made last week by Cox Automobile. Other investors include Standard Chartered Bank, Sumitomo Corp of Americas and Saudi auto distributor Abdul Latif Jameel Co.
