The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has banned commercial motorcyclists from operating in Eket to curb the activities of criminals in the state.
A statement issued by SP Odiko MacDon, the State Police Public Relations Officer, stated that commercial bikes are going to be barred from operating between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am daily.
As reported here on Naijauto, the statement said,
"As a proactive measure to checkmate criminality within Eket and its environs, the command will enforce the directive of the state government prohibiting the use of motorcycles in Eket.
Also at Ikot Ekpene local government areas between 6 p.m and 6 a.m daily."
Bike riders would be barred from operating between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am daily.

SP MacDon pointed out that commercial cyclist users around Eket should abide by the instructions and not flout it as defaulters will be dealt with according to the law.
"The Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that it has commenced a massive crackdown on users of motorcycles within Uyo metropolis in compliance with the law prohibiting the same. Law-abiding members of the public should avoid using motorcycles within Uyo metropolis as those found violating this Law will be apprehended and prosecuted."
The PRO added that the Commissioner of the Police State Command, CP Zaki Ahmed has reaffirmed their commitment towards the protection of lives and properties and also the maintenance of law and order in Akwa Ibom. To that end, he urged all law-abiding citizens in the state to comply with their request.
